When was the last time you invested purely in your own well-being?
It is one of the most important places you can put your time & money. Yet it is probably the thing getting neglected most in life!
Family, business and friends all seem to take precedent, and other people’s priorities envelop your own.
Investing time in yourself is not being selfish. Taking the time out to relax, rejuvenate & refocus has knock-on benefits to everyone around you. As well as looking after your own future. The adverse effects of not giving yourself the attention you deserve can be much worse.
Five years ago, my whole world flipped in a few hours and I was forced to change my priorities.
I was running at 100 miles an hour all the time, spending all of my time focused on my business. It started with a headache, and then I collapsed, in what was later diagnosed as a stroke.
I was lucky, once I had rested & taken time out, I was quickly back up and running. It was a life-changing experience, I started to re-evaluate what was important to me. I took some time to relax, when I started to invest in myself I did start to truly feel better.
When people think they should invest in their well-being, they assume it’s only exercising & eating healthily. These can add more unwanted pressure to you. Worrying about making your classes in time after a long day at work, then getting home & cooking a healthy kale salad.
I have found that a retreat in the sun, can actually be the best way to step back from life, & just refresh your head. You can gain perspective & clarity in your life which can only be achieved by taking yourself away from the situation.
Beth Beurlow, founder of the coaching company The Introvert Entrepreneur says that “retreats can be a fabulous way for entrepreneurs to pop the bubble they may find themselves in”. And she’s right! We tend to get caught up in the busy-ness of throwing yourself into running a business, but this can sometimes lead to a complete separation to the reality we are living in.
You may be thinking, that’s all well and good, but finding the hotel, sorting out the details and getting the best deals is already enough of a headache. How can I make time for this when I don’t even have time for myself?
Like you, I thought this, and couldn’t understand why no one in the travel space offered this for business women.
Fast-forward to now, and Grown-up Escapes was born! I have personally tried and tested every location, hotel and experience to make sure they’re perfect.
