Our take on the boutique hotel – Praia Verde
When you think of the Algarve, you think of long sandy beaches, golf courses, less traditional & more commercialism, so did we, that was until we visited the Praia Verde Hotel so here is our take on the boutique hotel – Praia Verde
Considered by CNN as one of Europe’s best boutique hotels in 2014, the Praia Verde hotel is one of the most hyped hotels in the Algarve – however, very little is actually known about it.
We shine the light on one of the treasures of the Algarve & give you the insider details on this chic hotel.
What? The small 65-room Praia Verde hotel is the product of a new concept in the Portuguese hotel industry. Moving away from traditional, grandeur hotels, this modern sleek hotel embodies a cool, healthy lifestyle combined with the relaxed Portuguese style.
The hotel is truly created to allow you to escape from the stresses of modern day life & return completely relaxed & refreshed. Think white minimalist rooms with views of the ocean and you will not go far wrong.
Where? Praia Verde is in a residential villa development, located just off the Eastern Coast of the Algarve in a rare pocket which hasn’t been over-developed. It’s 50km (45 mins) east of Faro & 8km from the Spanish border. In fact, Seville is only an hour & a half drive away!
Its rural location & private beach offer a tonne of activities while you’re there – from exploring the coves to taking a trip to the nearby castle in neighbouring Castro Marim.
Surrounded by pine trees & away from the hustle & bustle of the towns, the relaxing location might be one of our favourite things about this hotel.
What to do? The Praia Verde hotel is a unique hotel that focuses on wellness & relaxation. However – this is not your traditional high-end spa! The hotel focuses more on connecting with your mind & soul and offers a variety of fun activities to relate to anyone.
You can borrow a book from their collection & read under the trees; enjoy a black & white movie projected in the lounge; settle in to some alfresco dining in the courtyard; break a sweat in the free yoga classes; get those abs working in a belly-dancing class; or simply book in a treatment to have in your room.
If you want a day trip to make the most of the local area – we can also organise paddle boarding in the beautiful Ria Formoso Lagoon area or a trip to the Salino Salt Spa. And for a bit of culture – why not drive to Tavira, one of the prettiest towns in the Algarve?
Our favourite thing: The Al Terra restaurant, we had the most amazing tuna Nicoise salad, it was so nice we had it on our second visit too
Who? This hotel suits anyone from a group of ladies who just want to disconnect & relax to a unique hen do that wants to have some fun.
There’s something for everyone – but if you are looking for a mindfulness escape, which is chilled out & relaxing, then Praia Verde is for you.
When? We visited the Praia Verde in November which was the perfect time to relax & chill as the weather isn’t too hot.
While there is plenty of shade amongst the trees to relax in the summer, we recommend visiting in the quieter spring & autumn months. However, as the Algarve doesn’t get too cold, winter would also be a pleasant time.
How to get there? Faro Airport (FAO) is the closest to the hotel. A 45-minute drive away. From here, there are direct flights from major cities all over Europe; if you are coming from further afield, there is a stopover in Lisbon.
