It’s the things you do at the planning stage that can make all the difference between a totally blissful break and the girls weekend from hell. Take it from us we have seen it all and more, that’s why we want to share our tips, so you have the best time possible.
If you’re dreaming of a luxurious escape to relax, reconnect and enjoy some new experiences with your favourite ladies, you’ll want everything to be just perfect and leave you with some amazing memories that you’ll treasure for a lifetime – not images of screaming matches and catfights seared into your brain!
Number One – Choose your girls carefully
Big personalities equal big laughs, but they can also come served with a side order of tension. We’ve all got friends who are larger than life and at the centre of all the holiday frivolities but invite too many girls along with the same strong characters and you could be setting yourself up for some major conflict.
If you prefer to stay away from drama, then definitely aim for a group of between 4 to 8 friends. It’s still a nice intimate group but you don’t feel like you have to be constantly in each other’s pockets during your break. But if you are happy to go with the flow and don’t mind the odd disagreement then the more the merrier – the only limit is the number of friends you want to invite!
Number Two – Nominate someone to be a chief organiser – Everyone needs to feel involved in the important elements of the break to avoid a girls’ weekend from hell – but you will need to assign the role of the organiser to one person or your plans will end in utter carnage! Your organiser will need to take everyone’s opinions into account and come up with a solution to try and keep the majority happy – be patient with the organiser too, they are the one that will be up all hours finding the best places to go and have sent endless messages to not get any replies from her gang!
Number Three – Crystal clear financials – When you start organising your girls’ weekend, you can bet that one of the most asked questions is going to be the cost. Although you can give them a good idea of the basics, it is hard to know the exact cost of a mojito unless you’ve actually been there yourself. We’ve all got that one friend who splits the bill to the penny and stands at the back when it is their round. Yes, you know who you are!!
And it’s a mood killer if someone’s going to constantly complain about the cost of pretty much everything while you are all trying to unwind and soak up some of the holiday atmospheres.
The best way to get a realistic picture of the total cost of your girls’ escape is to talk to someone who’s actually been to the destination, stayed at the hotel, eaten out at the local restaurants and enjoyed some of the experiences on offer. Our destination experts not only give you prices for your travel and accommodation but will advise you on an idea of what you’re likely to spend on the fun stuff while you’re there.
Number Four – Commitment issues
There’s nothing more frustrating than suggesting a girly escape only to have people drop out at the last minute. Not only does this totally mess up the room plans, but it can completely alter the overall cost of the trip and lead to a lot of resentment from the rest of your group. Make it clear from the start that if anyone isn’t 100% up for the adventure for whatever reason, they need to say so now to avoid causing serious problems later on down the line.
Number Five – Book in advance
Yes, we know it is hard to get everyone to decide but leaving it until the last minute just means less choice and more work to find the right place for your group. Some of our favourite restaurants we use for groups in the Algarve are booked up at least 6 months in advance. So where possible and as difficult as it might nail your buddies to a date and strike while the iron is hot.
