Flip-flops? Check. Bikini? Check. Dancing shoes? Check. You’ll already have a good idea on what you’ll need to pack for your girls’ escape, but before you finalise your packing list take a peek at these 5 weird (but useful) items that you might want to save a little space for in your luggage.

Black tea bags

My mother still insists on taking black tea bags every single time she jets off abroad, but its not necessarily for the reason you might think. Strong black tea doesn’t just make a good cuppa, but its a fantastic natural remedy for treating sunburn on your girls’ escape. Tea contains tannins which can help prevent and repair damage to the skin whilst the theobromine soothes and helps remove heat from the affected area – so just pop the kettle on and wait for the tea to cool before applying it with a soft flannel.

Plus if you’ve had one too many cocktails the night before, cold tea bags are a great way of reducing puffy eyes if you can’t make it to the spa just yet.

Pill organiser

Pill organisers are great if you need to take medication or supplements away on your break, but they also make for a pretty nifty storage solution for little items that can get lost easily. On a recent trip to France, I picked up an organiser a few days before our flight and used it to store my earrings, a few extra SD cards and a spare set of luggage lock keys so everything was kept together in one easy to reach  place.

Well worth a few pounds before you and your ladies head off on your girls’ escape.

Tennis ball

Bear with me on this one, because having a tennis ball in your luggage could actually save you from hours of stiff legs and sore muscles when you land. A few hours in an economy plane seat can test even the most flexible traveller, but take a tennis ball with you and you’ve got a cost-effective and lightweight massage tool right at your fingertips.

If you’re starting to stiffen up but don’t want to clog the aisle walking up and down and throwing a few yoga poses, use the tennis ball to massage your neck, clench it in the palm of your hands or even pop it on the floor to roll around with your foot to give you some relief. The best bit is that tennis balls are an approved item on flights, so you don’t need to worry about security at the airport either.

Baby powder

If your anything like me you’ll love the beach but hate bringing what feels like bags of sand back to the hotel with you. A really simple solution is to grab a bottle of baby powder before you and your ladies head down to the beach. Baby powder removes the moisture from the skin, so apply it liberally to the body and even your hair and the sand will just fall away.

Plus you’ll smell pretty good too!

A colour copy of your passport

A really simple tip but one that many of us forget to do before we leave for a girls’ escape is to make a colour copy of your passport and pop it into your case. Once you’ve got through security and head into the airport lounge it can be really easy to mislay a passport while your browsing the make-up or popping a few celebratory corks at the bar – and if your passport goes walkies at the airport or worse still while your on holiday then it makes it so much easier to try and get a replacement while your abroad.

Give another copy to one of your holiday buddies so if all else fails then someone has a backup copy for you.
